Lancelot ETRM: New trading system for Motor Oil Renewable Energy
Lancelot ETRM is a versatile and comprehensive system designed for energy commodity trading and risk management, making it ideal for organizations with multiple business units.
The objective of this project was to provide Motor Oil Renewable Energy (MORE), an energy company operating in Southern and Central Europe, with the Lancelot ETRM product solution.
Initial State
MORE sought a new ETRM system to enhance the efficiency of managing energy market trading activities, especially in electricity and EUA trading. The growing number of transactions and diverse contracts necessitated a flexible solution for recording energy contracts related to electricity and EUAs. The key objectives were twofold: to facilitate transparent risk management in energy markets and to establish a unified market data platform, eliminating the necessity of accessing data through separate market entities and institutional portals.
Our Solution
Lancelot ETRM serves as a comprehensive energy trading and risk management solution tailored for gas and electricity traders operating in the liberalized energy market. Boasting real-time monitoring capabilities for both open and closed positions, it ensures top-notch performance and user convenience. The system is compatible with various marketplaces and broker platforms, specializing in day-ahead, intraday, and balancing markets. Moreover, it incorporates an integrated open position optimizer, empowering users with well-informed decision-making capabilities.
With its versatility, Lancelot ETRM effectively manages diverse energy trades and EUA contracts, effortlessly handling multiple market units across more than 30 markets. Lancelot Hub provides access to market data from over 10 platforms, including EEX, HEnEx, SEEPEX, JAO, SEECAO, and more. Additionally, the risk management module is fortified with advanced risk metrics like Value-at-Risk, Credit risk, and Mark-to-Market, among others.

Results of the project
With Lancelot ETRM acquisition MORE acquired:
- A comprehensive system capable of recording a wide range of energy trades (futures, options, physical delivery, capacity trades) specifically in electricity and emission allowances markets across Europe.
- A tool for managing commodity contract trading positions using portfolios and books at a multi-commodity level.
- A flexible reporting tool enabling aggregation and management of trade-specific risks using advanced risk metrics such as Value-at-Risk, Credit risk, and Mark-to-Market, among others.
- A robust and transparent tool offering variable user access and role management, ensuring secure and auditable operations.
- A versatile solution serving five separate trading companies with partially overlapping or separate trading, finance, and back-office teams.
- A unified and reliable source of trading data from various marketplaces and relevant energy trading institutions like EEX, HEnEx, SEEPEX, JAO, SEECAO, and FX rates.
- Inputs supporting downstream processes related to energy trading, including access to billing items and scheduling support.

Motor Oil Renewable Energy (MORE)
MORE is a subsidiary of the Motor Oil Group and is one of the largest RES producers in Greece with 832 MW of installed capacity comprising of wind farms photovoltaic and hydroelectric projects. The company is very active in managing its energy portfolio in day-ahead, intraday and balancing mar-kets. It is also very active in physical cross-border trading (holding trading licenses in Greece, Serbia, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Italy, Montenegro), as well as financial futures and options trading in power, gas and EUA’s.
The company's plans include the expansion of its renewables portfolio internationally, the development of energy storage systems and the engagement with offshore wind production.
